Journey with PAC: Lisa's Story
Parkinson’s disease can feel isolating, not only for those diagnosed but for their families and loved ones. At the Parkinson Association of the Carolinas (PAC), we believe no one should face Parkinson’s alone. This is a message that comes to life in the story of Lisa, a valued member of our community.
Discovering PAC
Lisa first learned about PAC when her father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Suddenly navigating the unfamiliar territory of a loved one facing a progressive neurodegenerative disease, she sought guidance on how to best support him. Even though her father lives outside of the Carolinas, Lisa found PAC to be a vital resource for information, connection, and support.
Facing Parkinson's Personally
As Lisa learned more about Parkinson’s disease, she felt empowered to support her father in meaningful ways. But life had another challenge in store. Lisa herself was diagnosed with Parkinson’s.
Fortunately, Lisa was already familiar with PAC. She knew it was a place for connection, resources, and strength. This year, Lisa deepened her commitment by joining PAC’s Board of Directors and becoming a monthly donor, ensuring she could help others navigating Parkinson’s disease.
Lisa shared,
“Parkinson’s can make you feel very alone and helpless. When I found PAC, I not only found practical information, but a community of people who understand what me and my family are going through and are eager to help. Most of all, PAC has empowered me. I may have Parkinson’s but Parkinson’s doesn’t have me!”
